I mustve watched this ending 30 times now.
I just have to say, most of my favorite movies are comedies, Bicentennial Man, About Time, Addams Family Values, Our Idiot Brother and even Get Over It and She's Out of my League. But the reason I keep going back to those movies is that they also are serious and honest in their themes, much in a way that is enhanced by the comedy. And often in these movies the comedy comes from how the characters interact and how it's framed. Jojo Rabbit is made from Jojo's perspective and his personality, if it was made from say his mother's perspective or Sam Rockwell's Character's perspective I think it would have been a much more tragic or heartbreaking story all the way through...

I totally thought that sam rockwell's character and alfie allen's character were in i the only one. Yes, THANK YOU. I just finished watching this movie a few hours ago and, after digesting what I'd just seen, blitzed through a handful of exasperatingly reductive reviews by self-serious professional critics who didn't get the movie at all. I was so relieved to watch yours and to see that some of us can get to the heart of what makes this film great (and not at all because of the Oscar recognition) and why those critics are tripping. Movies like this are so much more effective at combating fascist ideologies. Modern fascists and white nationalists LOVE being the villain, it makes them rock hard. They're just a bunch of edgelords who are used to being the bad guy. The best way to combat them is to make fun of them and show them how their big spooky Nazis were actually goofy dumdums. P.s. Sam Rockwell and Alfie Allen's characters being heavily implied to be gay was also a very interesting and ultimately heartfelt and tragic. I felt an immense sense of pride (pun intended) when we finally got to see them fight their last battle in their flamboyant costumes and eye shadow. They were, in their last moments, finally able to be true to themselves. It was like the final scene in Billy Elliot when we see grown-up Michael with his boyfriend Lance (who is played by Lance Bass lol. I'm surprised no reviewers really mentioned this. I can't be the only one who noticed this. xD.
